“ I've been wanting to go to Theodore Rex for years now, so when my wife booked us to come for my birthday, I was very excited, but I was also nervous if it would live up to the hype. I can honestly say that they absolutely nailed it! The service was great and all of the chefs and waiters we spoke to explained the menu seamlessly. The food had simple plating and felt like it had unique combinations of flavors that somehow still made me feel reminiscent of food made by my parents. For me, this is one of the best restaurants in Houston, I can't wait to come back and try some of their other dishes! ”
“ Went here for the first seating on Valentines day. Parking was difficult but that was listed and expected. To start, the staff were wonderful and the building was the perfect setting for our meal. Small and intimate, you constantly had things going on nearby and felt part of the restaurant, but not so much as to be distracting from the meal. The food and drink was simply amazing. The wine list was well put together, French forward, and had a variety of options to match the different items of food. Standouts of the food were the hiramasa, the tomato toast, and the melted onions. Everything was wonderful but those dishes were unbelievable. The coconut glazed chicken breast was extremely good but by the time we got to that course we were almost beyond full! Lastly I highly reccomend any buttercake they serve for dessert. Overall a 5/5 on every metric. ”
“ I always love T Rex! Everyone is so kind and knowledgeable. Great selection of wines, great recommendations. The best Red Fish I’ve ever had! ”
“ Former post office with a chamber atmosphere - only 7 tables plus a kitchen counter. The service was very attentive and food was delicious. Finally, a HTX restaurant that is absolutely worth Bib Gourmand Michelin guide rating. However, no espresso or espresso-based coffee drinks. ”
“ This is a complete dining experience. While the location is small and dated, they take great care to set the mood for fine dining with a quaintly modern atmosphere. The menu is short, but contains depth and breadth of profiles. The staff advised us on the dishes that were “controversial” to perhaps some less adventurous diners, but approaching every dish with an open mind led our party to incredible experiences. Our party looked at the menu and said “yes.” Our quintet ordered 13 dishes to share. The chef coursed them out over a couple of hours with a good pace that allowed for chats between gestational exploration. All of the dishes were presented beautifully by the staff, with beautiful colors and appetizing features on each plate, and recommended approaches from the chef. Not every dish hit the same, but we were glad to have journeyed through the gambit and found the surprisingly exciting flavors along the way. The strawberry buttercake was one of the most incredible desserts I’ve ever enjoyed. ”
“ Wow! We finally made it here after having this place on our list for 4 years. Exceptional food and exceptional service! Jacob took great care of us at the bar and made sure we had an amazing experience. Won't say much about the food as you really have to try it to understand how good it is. I will say we had the tomato toast, the dumplings, fettuccine (Sunday special), the red fish, and the warm strawberry buttercake. Our favorites were the dumplings and red fish. The strawberry buttercake was such a good way to finish the meal! Everything is made with great care and passion and you can taste it in each dish. If you've been on the fence, just go and try it. We will be back and we will bring others with us. ”
“ Great view from our table. Small and cute restaurant serving up some tasty and unique dishes. The service was excellent. The hiramasa was an unexpected favorite of mine. We got the boiled dumplings super flavorful. The tomato toast was super filling and would have loved to have a half order option! Can’t wait to go back. ”
“ We had such a great experience at Theodore Rex. The restaurant is small and cozy, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The menu is not super large, but everything we had was delicious, especially the redfish. Our waiter went above and beyond and even gave me some great restaurant recommendations since I am new to the area. We cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. ”
